Tchaikovsky, Violin Concerto in D, Op.35. Jascha Heifetz with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Walter Susskind. Recorded at the EMI Abbey Road Studio in London on July 19-20, 1950. This is one of three recordings of this work by Heifetz and many fans consider it their favorite. Transferred and restored from the original RCA mono LP LM 1111 by Bob Varney. Heifetz was just 16 years old when he made this recording and had just had his American debut at Carnegie Hall a month before on November 7th. An acoustic recording. Transferred from the original 12" one-sided Victor disc 74570 by Bob Varney. A 1922 Victor catalog lists this recording for $1.75. That would be $24.70 in 2015 dollars.
